Programs Abroad for Americans in Danmark

Denmark Program AbroadThe southernmost Scandinavian country, Denmark borders Germany to the south and lies just across the North Sea from Sweden. Thanks to a thriving economy and very low unemployment, Danes enjoy one of the highest standards of living in Europe. The The Little Mermaid, Denmarkhallmarks of the Danish lifestyle are a flair for style and a deep affection for all the comforts of civilization - good food, good friends, and a harmonious home life. Like other Scandinavians, most Danes speak English, as well as German.

The country’s capital, Copenhagen is a compact, walkable harbor city full of cozy cafes, tempting pastry shops and trendy boutiques, and a favorite destination among European tourists. Seamlessly blending past and present, Copenhagen showcases both the medieval remnants of the oldest kingdom in Europe and the latest in the sophisticated, world famous Danish design, from architecture to fashion.

High School in Denmark

With safe communities and friendly residents, Denmark is an excellent choice for a high school abroad program. Danes have a well-deserved reputation as a very relaxed and easygoing people. Celebrations, friendships and socializing are an integral part of the Danish lifestyle.

CCI High School in DenmarkYou will be enrolled in a Danish gymnasium (or high school). Core courses include English, Danish, History, Geography, Biology, Math, Physics and P.E. Students may choose 2-3 electives in the humanities or sciences. Extra-curricular activities, such as sports, clubs, social events, art, music and drama, are generally not offered by schools, but opportunities to participate in these activities are plentiful in the local community. The language of instruction is Danish, which you will be expected to learn, although your teachers, friends and host family will happily help you.

Most Danish parents tend to give their children more freedom than American teens are used to, but they expect children to be responsible and trustworthy in return.

Program Requirements
Prior study of Danish is recommended, but not required.
