Ecuador is named for the Equator, where it is
located. A small country, only about the size of Nevada,
Ecuador is incredibly diverse in landscape and climate.
The topography ranges from the snowcapped peaks of the Andes to
the tangled rainforests of the Amazon to active volcanoes in the central highlands.
The Galapagos
islands, located 600 miles off the coast in the Pacific,
are legendary both for their natural beauty and unique
wildlife and as the site where Charles Darwin developed
his famous theories of evolution.

Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is considered by many to be one of Latin America’s most beautiful cities. Quito has all the conveniences of a modern city, yet it has carefully preserved a large historic district which has been designated as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Ecuadorians are famous for their hospitality. Drop
in unannounced at mealtimes and you can expect
to be seated at the table with the family.
Maintaining strong ties with family and friends is
important, so communities tend to be close-knit.
