Independent Homestay Program throughout the U.S.
CCI's Independent Homestay Program offers international participants
an excellent forum for improving their conversational
English language skills, while at the same time providing
American families unique perspectives on the world.
Participants,
ages 16 - 70+, spend two to eight weeks experiencing day-to-day life with volunteer American
host families. Through this simple, yet very personal,
exchange of ideas both guests and hosts learn a great
deal about each other and themselves!
This program is most suitable for mature applicants
who are prepared to spend some time exploring their
host community independently. Programs vary in length
from two to eight weeks, and can be enjoyed throughout
the year, based on host family availability.
Program Includes
- Room and board with volunteer American host family
- Orientation, support and supervision by a CCI Local Coordinator
- Airport transfers to/from airport nearest to
homestay community
- Accident and medical insurance
Community Service Option
It's an American tradition to volunteer time and service to a worthy cause. The Volunteer Program Option is an excellent way for Independent Homestay participants to meet people, make friends, and become quickly familiar with the area. Participants in this program also gain the satisfaction that comes with making a meaningful contribution to their host community and helping those in need.
CCI will arrange for a participant to volunteer on a service project in their host community. The community service assignment generally includes 10 to 20 hours of volunteer activity per week. There is a small additional fee for this service.
Projects are available in the following general areas:*
- Environmental conservation
- Working with the elderly or disabled
- Programs for the homeless
- Youth programs
*CCI may be able to accommodate special requests for projects in other areas.
English Tutoring Option
CCI can arrange for a certified ESL/EFL tutor to provide English lessons to the participant at the host family home or another convenient location. Tutoring can be arranged from 5 – 10 hours a week. The participant pays a small fee to cover the cost of identifying the tutor. The participant is then responsible for paying the tutor directly (approx. $25 USD/hour) for services rendered.
